Vamping Horn at South Scarle...

A VAMPING HORN (on the wall in the bottom left pic)! None of us have ever seen one of these before (understandably, since this is one of only nine in the country). Also known as a ‘Shawm’, the large trumpet shaped horns were used in church during choir services to ‘vamp up’ the singing hence the name Vamping Horn and also used as megaphones for communication at a distance over one mile and for public addresses. Great night playing at South Scarle Community Centre in Lincolnshire on Saturday night, what a beautiful venue!
